Fifteen years after his acclaimed examination of the social media giant’s origins, Aaron Sorkin is returning to the world of Facebook with a new project titled “The Social Reckoning.” The upcoming film investigates the platform’s current influence on polarization, extremism, and the spread of false information in the United States—themes that have long defined Sorkin’s public disputes with CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The narrative is based on the true story of former Facebook employee Frances Haugen, portrayed by Mikey Madison, who recently earned an Oscar nomination for her role in “Anora.” The plot centers on Haugen’s decision to leak thousands of internal company documents to Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, who is played by Jeremy Allen White, known for his starring role in “The Bear.” The film aims to highlight the consequences of these disclosures and the broader societal role the platform now plays.
