A United States official stated on Wednesday that Iranian military attacks have not affected American facilities, even as Iran’s foreign ministry accused US forces of killing or injuring more than 50 people in an airstrike on a wedding celebration.
Esmaeil Baqaei, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, reported the incident on the social media platform X. He stated that a residence in Kuhestak, located in the Sirik district of Hormozgan province in southern Iran, was attacked while families were celebrating a wedding. Baqaei claimed that over 50 men, women, and children were killed or wounded in the strike.
The spokesman characterized the attack as part of a broader pattern of violence, referencing an earlier strike on a school in Minab that resulted in the deaths of dozens of children. According to a person briefed on preliminary intelligence in March, the United States was likely responsible for the school bombing but did not intend to target the facility. The briefing suggested the error may have stemmed from outdated intelligence that incorrectly identified the area as part of an Iranian military installation.
US officials had not immediately commented on the allegations regarding the wedding party strike in southern Iran on Tuesday evening.
