Saudi-backed Yemeni military units reported on social media that they have secured control over the highest elevation in the Jabal Habashi district of Taiz. The advance is part of an initiative referred to as the “Dawn of Yemen” operation, aimed at reclaiming territories held by Houthi fighters.
Concurrently, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that his group has successfully blocked efforts by government forces to push toward the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
The Saudi-led coalition has identified the Houthi-held capital of Sanaa, along with the governorates of Saada and Amran, as the primary launch points for missile threats directed at Saudi Arabia.
If they really hold Habashi, that changes logistics for everyone. Do we know how long they can sustain the position under counter-attack?
Is this really a turning point? The fighting near Taiz has been stalemate for years, so I remain skeptical about any lasting gains here.
Finally some good news from Taiz. Taking that peak could shift the entire balance in our favor against the Houthis.
