During a Wednesday appearance at the Bloomberg Screentime conference, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos addressed questions regarding the potential impact of a Paramount and Warner Bros. merger on his company’s market position. Rather than expressing concern, Sarandos offered a dismissive assessment of the rivalry.
Referring to Netflix’s two primary streaming platforms, he stated, “It’s looked on paper so far it’s one and one,” suggesting the merged entity would not necessarily shift the competitive balance in favor of its rivals.
Sarandos also touched upon his professional relationship with Casey Bloys, the head of HBO Max. When asked if he had attempted to recruit Bloys to Netflix, Sarandos noted the interaction was widely known, remarking, ‘We Had a Very Well-Publicized Lunch,’ indicating transparency about their past discussions without revealing private details.
The comments reflect Netflix’s confident stance amid ongoing consolidation in the media and entertainment industry, where streaming giants continue to navigate an increasingly crowded landscape.
