The swift actions of an Indian pilot who was stabbed by his co-pilot allowed passengers and crew to save 174 people aboard a flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv from Dubai.
Captain Smit Machchhar, originally from Mumbai, was lying on the cockpit floor drenched in blood when he managed to press the release button to open the aircraft’s door. This critical act permitted off-duty pilots, passengers, and other crew members to enter and overpower the attacker before the plane landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
Machchhar is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in north-western Saudi Arabia. Reports indicate that among those who helped restrain the co-pilot were individuals working as a plumber and a dentist.
