An 11-year-old girl has been taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of her 15-year-old brother in Oklahoma. The Edmond Police Department confirmed that the child was transported to a juvenile facility and booked on a charge of second-degree murder.
Authorities made the arrest around 1 a.m. on Thursday. According to a Broadcastify recording of emergency communications, the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Police stated that the children’s mother was not present at the scene during the incident. Investigators say the mother learned of the shooting when her daughter called her to report that someone had shot her son.
Due to the juvenile status of those involved, law enforcement declined to release identifying details regarding the incident. In a statement, Edmond police expressed sympathy for the family, saying, “We recognize this is a heartbreaking situation for the family involved. Our thoughts are with them as they grieve this tragedy.”
