A devastating fire engulfed a market in the village of Babuda, located in Indonesia’s Central Papua province, leaving 11 people dead. Among the victims are six children, authorities confirmed.
The blaze, which broke out on September 7, 2026, spread rapidly from the market area to adjacent structures. The inferno destroyed approximately 40 homes and shops, leaving many residents displaced and community infrastructure in ruins.
Rescue operations are ongoing as officials assess the full extent of the damage and identify remaining survivors.
