You Can Now Sit at Elizabeth Holmes’ Desk in Highly Detailed 2016 Simulator

Bo Lau, an engineer at Extend, has launched a meticulously crafted website that simulates the workspace of former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes. The project immerses users in a digital recreation of Holmes’ office environment from 2016, offering a unique way to engage with the evidence presented during the high-profile fraud trial in United States v. Elizabeth Holmes.

The simulation is remarkably detailed, reflecting the technology of that era. Users interact with an iPhone featuring a physical home button and the familiar slide-to-unlock interface, as well as a MacBook Air running OS X El Capitan. Through this authentic digital environment, visitors can browse over a thousand emails, slides, text messages, and documents that were made public during the legal proceedings.

One of the standout features of the site is the ability to interact with the Theranos Edison device, the company’s controversial machine intended to perform extensive health diagnostics from a single drop of blood. Users can run the ill-fated device within the simulator, providing a tangible connection to the technological failures at the heart of the case.

While the project has a humorous premise, it serves as a practical archive for navigating thousands of PDFs that are otherwise difficult to source from court websites. However, the initiative also carries commercial objectives. Lau is using the platform to promote a watch party hosted by her company, Extend, for Nathan Fielder’s upcoming documentary about Holmes titled [You Can See Everything].

Additionally, the project highlights Extend’s core capabilities. The company describes its service as a tool that can “parse, extract, and split your hardest documents with unmatched accuracy.” By demonstrating its ability to reconstruct complex historical document ecosystems, the project acts as a proof-of-concept for the firm’s B2B SaaS offerings.

  1. Wait, so this is just a fancy PDF viewer wrapped in nostalgia? I feel both impressed and deeply deceived.

  2. It’s genius marketing disguised as a novelty site. Extend really needs to hire me for their next campaign.

  3. Does this mean I can finally relive the trauma of watching the trial in real-time? My PTSD thanks you.

  4. I can’t believe they actually recreated the OS X El Capitan interface. The attention to detail is terrifyingly accurate.
