Microsoft has announced a significant organizational change within its gaming division, consolidating its two primary racing game development teams into a single studio. Playground Games, known for creating the open-world Forza Horizon series, and Turn 10 Studios, the developers behind the simulation-focused Forza Motorsport, will now operate as one entity.
According to a memo shared by Matt Booty, Xbox’s chief content officer, the newly merged group will concentrate its efforts on the Forza and Fable franchises. Booty noted that the two teams have served as technological and creative partners for more than ten years, and the recent restructuring formally unifies their operations.
The merger represents a pivotal shift in Xbox’s development strategy, effectively closing Turn 10 Studios as an independent entity while combining its resources with those of Playground Games.
Honestly, I’m just happy they’re finally working together. Ten years as partners just makes sense now. Can’t wait to see what the new engine does.
A single studio for both Forza and Fable? That sounds like a recipe for chaotic creative direction. Will we still get pure racing sims?
Wait, does this mean Turn 10 Studios is officially gone? I loved their technical approach to sim racing. Hope Playground keeps that spirit alive.
This is huge news. Merging the simulation and arcade sides of Forza could lead to the best racing games we’ve ever seen.
