Although the Vivo X Fold 6 debuted in China this June as a typical new foldable, its upcoming global launch reveals a design that feels surprisingly dated. While earlier in the year the device seemed unremarkable among competitors, the shift by industry giants toward shorter, wider screens has made Vivo’s traditional dimensions appear old-fashioned by comparison.
The handset maintains the same physical proportions as Vivo’s previous models and most other foldables released prior to recent design pivots by Apple and Samsung. These competitors have moved toward broader aspect ratios with devices like the Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo, leaving the X Fold 6 behind in terms of current trends.
Specifically, the phone features a 6.51-inch outer display with a standard 20:9 smartphone aspect ratio. When unfolded, it reveals an 8.02-inch inner panel that leans toward a square shape rather than the more rectangular formats gaining popularity. Additionally, the device lags slightly behind rivals regarding screen aesthetics, as the fold crease remains quite visible. The phone also carries an IP59 water and dust resistance rating, which is solid but not class-leading.
IP59 is decent, but lagging behind competitors in 2026 isn’t a good look. Hope the software makes up for the hardware.
Honestly, I prefer the taller inner screen. Those new wide foldables feel awkward to hold one-handed.
Is the crease actually that bad? I read reviews saying it’s visible, which is a dealbreaker for me on a premium device.
Sad that Vivo stuck to old dimensions while Samsung and Apple went wide. It really does look dated now.
