During a summit in Washington on Wednesday, General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, declared that American troops must be ready to engage in combat beyond Earth’s orbit and within the vicinity of the moon. This statement follows the recent revelation by the United States that it has positioned weapons systems in space, marking a significant shift in military strategy.
Addressing service members and industry leaders at the Air, Space and Cyber Conference held outside the capital, Caine emphasized the need for immediate adaptation within the armed forces. He stated that the military must ensure it is equipped to “fight, endure and win” across a expanding spectrum of conflict zones, ranging from the ocean floor to what he described as “cislunar space.”
