Speaking to FRANCE 24, UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix described the United States as a highly important collaborator, noting that American contributions remain vital despite the country owing approximately $3 billion in peacekeeping assessments.
The remarks come as the UN is compelled to reduce its operational capacity by roughly 25 percent due to financial constraints. Lacroix defended the cost-effectiveness of these missions, pointing out that they account for only 0.2 percent of global military expenditure.
“Peacekeeping is a good deal really,” Lacroix stated, emphasizing the value of the organization’s efforts relative to worldwide defense spending.
Peacekeeping is definitely a bargain, but the debt situation makes this partnership feel less like a collaboration and more like a favor.
I am surprised he is still being so diplomatic. Do they not owe more than just three billion now?
0.2 percent of global military spending? That is an incredibly strong argument for why we should fund these missions.
It is ironic to call someone a key partner when they owe billions. The US needs to pay up.
