Major defence contractors in the United Kingdom have committed to generating 40,000 apprenticeships, work placements, and jobs for young people annually. The pledge comes as Works Secretary Wes Streeting positions his department as a driver of economic expansion.
Streeting has described his role as leading a “ministry for growth,” aiming to prove that the substantial increase in defence expenditure planned for the coming years will translate into tangible employment opportunities within the UK. The Labour Party is keen to demonstrate that the additional spending, which may require future tax increases, will yield significant domestic benefits.
