Two Latvian nationals arrested after trespass at RAF Molesworth

Two men from Latvia have been taken into custody on suspicion of trespass after security personnel detected a breach at an RAF base in Cambridgeshire. The incident was triggered when a Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) patrol discovered an abandoned vehicle near RAF Molesworth at approximately 22:00 BST on Wednesday.

Following the discovery of the vehicle, joint searches were conducted by the MDP and Cambridgeshire Constabulary. Several hours later, officers identified a small section of the perimeter fence that had been compromised.

A spokesperson confirmed that the two suspects, aged 36 and 32, were arrested inside the base perimeter. The arrests were made under the National Security Act.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the motivations behind the intrusion or the status of the abandoned vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

  1. Latvian nationals trespassing at a US-run RAF base is oddly specific. Wonder if this is connected to wider NATO security concerns lately?

  2. Did they actually breach the fence or just walk near it? Seems harsh to arrest them under the National Security Act for trespassing.
