Two men from Latvia have been released on bail after an incident involving a breach of the perimeter fence at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire.
The Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) detected the security incident around 22:00 BST on Wednesday when patrols discovered an abandoned vehicle near the base. The facility is shared by the US military and Nato for intelligence operations.
Subsequent searches revealed a small gap in the fencing, leading to the arrest of two men, aged 36 and 32, who were found inside the perimeter. Both individuals, who reside in the UK, were taken to a Cambridgeshire police station.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the pair have been bailed subject to strict conditions.
Two men, a missing vehicle, and a gap in the fence… seems like there’s more to the story than just trespassing. Hope the investigation is thorough.
I didn’t realize RAF Molesworth was shared with Nato for intelligence ops. That makes this incident feel much more sensitive than a typical perimeter breach.
Bailed with strict conditions sounds standard, but I wonder if the gap in the fence was repaired immediately after such a significant breach.
Why were two Latvian men inside a high-security US-Nato base? This raises serious questions about border control and vetting processes.
