Richard Ayoade and Hannah Waddingham are among the high-profile voices in Krapopolis, an adult animated series set in ancient Greece that quietly premiered on iPlayer last month before airing on BBC Three tonight.
Created by Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon, the six-episode series features Ayoade as Tyrannis, a benevolent mortal ruler who applies modern concepts to governing his city. He is the son of the vain goddess Deliria, portrayed by Waddingham, and her husband Shlub, played by Matt Berry. The episodes run for approximately 20 minutes each.
In other programming, Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One at 6:15pm, with 14 couples remaining in the third week of competition. Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola recently confirmed they will perform a samba to the Gipsy Kings’ Bamboléo.
BBC Two presents 40 Hits of 1976 at 8:40pm, reflecting on a year that produced unexpected chart-toppers such as Save Your Kisses for Me and The Wurzels’ Combine Harvester, alongside punk and ABBA.
Anthony Horowitz’s mystery drama Marble Hall Murders airs on BBC One at 9:20pm. Lesley Manville stars as book editor Susan, who investigates claims within an author’s family regarding the death of his grandmother in 1955 Crete.
Sky One returns at 10pm with Saturday Night Live UK, hosted by actor Danny Dyer. Musical guest Sasha Keable performs songs from south London.
Channel 4 screens Three Women at 1:30am, a drama adaptation of Lisa Taddeo’s nonfiction book exploring sex and desire. The series is also available for streaming. Viewers can watch Matchbox the Movie, now available on Apple TV.
Danny Dyer hosting SNL UK seems like a gamble, but honestly, I’d watch just to see what he does with the cold open.
Is Krapopolis actually any good? The cast is stacked, but I’m wary of another adult animation that tries too hard.
Combine Harvester is an actual chart hit? I’ve heard it but never realized it was number one. History class needed.
I need to know if Ayoade’s Tyrannis sounds exactly like he always does in real life. That would be hilarious.
