In the premiere Weekend Update of Saturday Night Live’s 52nd season, cast member Jeremy Culhane returned to his popular Tucker Carlson impression to deliver a satirical review of major summer releases.
Culhane’s character opened with commentary on the film The Odyssey, making a joke about its IMAX 70mm format by coining the term “the gay inch” and referring to a “Hollywood cabal.” He also made a controversial remark about Greek representation, stating it was refreshing to see Greek people “do something other than make women feel uncomfortable.” Jost did not intervene during this segment.
The segment then shifted to the year’s biggest franchise installment, which Carlson jokingly referred to as “Spider-Man: Brand New Gender.” When Jost corrected the actual title, Carlson improvised a theme song: “Spider-They, Spider-Them uses whatever bathroom it feels like.” He further mocked the film’s casting by pretending to congratulate the stars on their wedding, only to stop mid-sentence over Zendaya’s decision not to take her partner’s surname. Jost pointed out that Zendaya does not have a last name, prompting Carlson to muse about the disappearance of the name and compare single-name conventions to naming dogs.
Turning to the horror film Obsession, Carlson caricatured left-wing perspectives by claiming the movie depicts a woman being forced into a heterosexual relationship, framing it as a dystopian nightmare. “Is this what we want? I don’t. Do you? You shouldn’t. But you do,” he said in character.
Carlson also offered political commentary, likening the animated features Minions and Monsters to members of Donald Trump’s cabinet, before deadpanning, “That’s right. I’ve turned on Trump. I’m so brave.” The segment concluded with a risqué joke about Toy Story 5, asking if Woody’s friend was named Woody.
This performance marks Culhane’s third time portraying Carlson on Weekend Update, having debuted the impression during the previous season. The segment aired on September 27, 2026.
