The United States has reportedly declined an Iranian proposal aimed at reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz and halting hostilities in the Middle East. While Tehran remains in anticipation of a formal response from Washington, reports indicate that President Donald Trump has rejected the diplomatic initiative.
Iran initially presented the plan during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. According to the proposal, which was relayed through Qatari mediators, the agreement could restore navigation through the vital waterway and bring an end to the regional war within a seven-day period.
Despite the offer, sources suggest that the US president does not anticipate acceptance of the deal. Instead, Trump is reportedly expecting that military strikes against Iranian targets will resume following the midterm elections.
