US President Donald Trump announced the formation of a dedicated task force to oversee artificial intelligence policy, naming it the “Super Intelligence Force.” The initiative, which was revealed on social media, aims to ensure American dominance in the technology’s advancement and to centralize the government’s interactions with the public regarding AI.
Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead the effort. He will be joined by Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson and Emil Michael, the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering.
This announcement follows Trump’s declaration last week that he would establish a board focused on AI safety, prompted by major technology executives signing what he characterized as a “morally binding” agreement to self-regulate the sector.
Additionally, on September 30, the president signed an executive order officially renaming artificial intelligence to “super intelligence.” Trump had previously criticized the term “artificial,” arguing it made the technology sound insubstantial or fake.
The rebranding has already influenced corporate decisions among industry leaders. Multimillionaire Elon Musk confirmed on social media that he will rename his company’s AI platform from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, becoming one of the first prominent figures to adopt the new terminology.
Jay Clayton leading this? I hope he brings his regulatory expertise, not just corporate lobbying experience. The stakes are huge.
Renaming it super intelligence is just marketing. We need guardrails, not a rebrand that sounds like a Marvel movie villain.
