US President Donald Trump has arrived in Dublin for a two-day visit to Ireland. During the trip, he is scheduled to hold discussions with Irish President Catherine Connolly and participate in a round of golf.
The president traveled aboard a Boeing aircraft provided by the Qatari royal family. Valued at approximately $400 million and described as a “palace in the sky,” the plane was converted for presidential use. However, questions persist regarding its ability to adequately protect the president from potential threats.
Security concerns regarding the aircraft surfaced during a trip to Turkey in July. Reports indicate that Trump was moved off the plane after a possible Iranian threat was identified, while other senior officials and journalists remained onboard. It was later revealed that the president was secretly transported via a catering truck to a separate, older aircraft after officials detected the potential threat in Ankara. The original plane, on which the president had boarded, continued the journey as a decoy.
Aboard the original flight were US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, several senior aides, and the traveling press pool. The press corps, which was not informed of the threat, was asked to keep their window shades closed during the incident.
The window shades detail is wild. Imagine sitting there thinking everything is normal while secret service pulls off a rescue at night.
Honestly, I didn’t know Qatar gifted this specific jet. I thought it was Air Force One. Makes me wonder what else is going on here.
Is it safe for President Connolly to meet with him given these security lapses? The rumors are concerning.
A four-hundred-million-dollar plane and they still had to swap jets at the last minute? Sounds like a movie plot, not real life.
I’m just amazed that the press was kept in the dark about the threat. That seems like a massive breach of protocol.
