Trump Announces Creation of ‘AI Force’ to Boost Domestic Development

While prominent figures in the artificial intelligence sector have been urging a slowdown in development, President Donald Trump has announced the establishment of a new “AI Force” and is actively seeking a “czar” to lead the initiative. In a statement posted to his Truth Social platform, Trump indicated that he would reveal the identity of the agency’s head “in the near future,” drawing parallels between the new effort and the formation of the Space Force.

The president emphasized that the administration would not impede the expansion of the technology. “We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” Trump wrote. “Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!” The announcement did not provide specific operational details for the AI Force.

Additionally, Trump launched a poll inviting the public to suggest a more “elegant and accurate description” for artificial intelligence, with proposed alternatives including “extreme intelligence” or “supreme intelligence.” This move stands in stark contrast to recent recommendations from industry leaders. Last week, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, released a comprehensive proposal to temper the pace of AI advancements. He was soon joined by CEOs from rival companies such as OpenAI and xAI, who endorsed the call for a more measured approach.

However, Trump argued that restricting AI growth in the United States would only enable China to gain competitive ground. Artificial intelligence is anticipated to be a central topic when the president meets with his Chinese counterpart later this week.

  1. China will just keep ahead if we strip away safety checks. The CEO slowdown calls were about not breaking things, not losing ground.

  2. The poll for ‘extreme intelligence’ is hilarious. Please tell me they actually use the term AI or this becomes a meme.
