Taylor-Brown Claims Victory at World Triathlon Series Event in Karlovy Vary

Great Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown delivered a commanding performance to capture the title at the final regular-season event of the World Championship Triathlon Series (WCTS) held in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The 32-year-old athlete overcame a demanding hilly course, completing the 1.5km swim, 40km bike leg, and 10km run in a total time of two hours, three minutes, and five seconds.

Taylor-Brown finished 36 seconds clear of American competitor Taylor Spivey, who took the silver medal. Germany’s reigning champion Lisa Tertsch rounded out the podium, finishing third with a gap of one minute and 28 seconds behind the British winner.

This result marks the Briton’s best finish of the current WCTS season and her first victory on the tour since 2023. Although she focused primarily on longer distances this year, highlighted by a win on the T100 tour in Spain in May, her previous best result in the WCTS was a fourth-place finish in Samarkand in April. The 2020 Olympic silver medallist has now re-established herself as a top contender.

Despite entering the race in second place in the overall standings, Taylor-Brown’s compatriot Beth Potter could not match the winner’s pace. Potter finished sixth, nearly two and a half minutes off the lead. Other British results included Kate Waugh in tenth, Sian Rainsley in fourteenth, and Olivia Mathias, who did not complete the race.

The outcome meant that Potter was unable to close the gap on WCTS leader Cassandra Beaugrand of France. Beaugrand elected not to compete in the Czech leg but retains maximum points of 4,000 heading into the WCTS Grand Finals. The championship concludes on September 26 in Pontevedra, Spain.

Attention now shifts to the men’s event, where Olympic champion Alex Yee is set to lead the British charge. The men’s race in Karlovy Vary is scheduled to begin at 14:00 BST on Sunday.
