Syria: Israeli Army Faces Accusations of Arbitrary Detentions

Since the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, the Israeli military has detained more than 200 people in southern Syria, according to data released by the Sijil Centre, an organization that monitors Israeli activities in the region.

While the Israeli defense forces state that their operations are aimed at targeting suspected terrorists, the practice has drawn sharp criticism. Witnesses on the ground have condemned the arrests as arbitrary, and former inmates along with their relatives have raised alarming reports regarding the treatment and living conditions within detention facilities.

2 responses to “Syria: Israeli Army Faces Accusations of Arbitrary Detentions”

  1. Another hollow denial from the IDF. When will the world take these arbitrary detention reports seriously?

  2. Over 200 arrests with no due process? This looks like occupation, not counter-terrorism. International law must apply here.
