At least 11 individuals were killed and dozens others injured during a second missile strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday. The attack occurred just 24 hours after a similar assault on the same facility left 12 dead and hundreds injured.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia confirmed that the airport was targeted again on Sunday afternoon. Authorities later identified one of the victims as a Pakistani national.
A spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition, which is engaged in combat against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, stated that air defense systems intercepted a cruise missile near the airport, though details regarding the interception remain limited. The Houthis subsequently claimed responsibility for the strikes, announcing in a statement that they had executed four missile and drone operations over the preceding 24 hours.
Houthi spokesmen specified that the group targeted King Khalid International Airport multiple times, as well as Dammam Airport in eastern Saudi Arabia and two facilities associated with state oil company Aramco. Later that evening, Saudi officials confirmed a separate attack on Dammam Airport.
The violence followed explicit warnings from the Houthi movement, which urged airlines and travelers to avoid Saudi airports, citing them as vulnerable
Second strike already. Riyadh airport isn’t safe? I wonder if global carriers will suspend flights soon.
The warnings were ignored. Airlines clearly still operate here despite Houthi threats, which seems incredibly risky.
Are Saudi air defenses failing, or just overwhelmed? You’d think they could stop cruise missiles by now.
Which passport was held by the Pakistani national? I hope consular assistance is being provided immediately.
This escalation is terrifying. Two attacks in twenty-four hours shows they can target key infrastructure repeatedly.
