Samsung Electronics has announced a strategic partnership with Helix Digital Infrastructure, committing a total of $1 billion in investment through the electronics giant and five of its affiliates. Samsung Electronics will contribute $500 million to the deal, while Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance will cover the remaining amount.
Helix, which was launched in June 2026, is focused on building the physical infrastructure required for the growing artificial intelligence industry. Its operations span hyperscale data centers, power generation and transmission, distribution infrastructure, and fiber-optic networks. The company is led by Adam Selipsky, the former CEO of Amazon Web Services.
The move allows Samsung to leverage its diverse internal capabilities, ranging from semiconductors and cooling systems to battery technology and data center construction, to support the global expansion of AI infrastructure. Helix already counts global investment firm KKR, chipmaker Nvidia, the Kuwait Investment Authority, and U.S. power utility Vistra among its founding investors.
According to KKR, more than $10 billion in funds have already been committed to Helix. The investment firm has separately allocated over $75 billion globally to digital infrastructure and power sectors, with approximately $9 billion invested in South Korea since 2009. Samsung stated that this investment will help accelerate the deployment of AI data centers worldwide and foster deeper collaboration among the participating entities.
Wow, KKR and Nvidia backing this too? That is a serious lineup of investors. Clearly the AI power boom is just getting started.
Billion dollars sounds impressive, but I wonder if the return on investment will match the hype? Infrastructure projects are notoriously slow.
Samsung really pulling out all the stops here. From chips to construction, it is a full-stack bet on AI infrastructure.
