Russia Strikes Kyiv’s Southern Bridge and Residential Areas; Ukraine Retaliates Against Volgograd

Russian air forces launched fresh strikes on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Friday, targeting critical infrastructure and residential areas, while Ukrainian forces responded with overnight drone attacks on the Russian city of Volgograd.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that Russian aircraft struck the Southern Bridge, a vital transportation link in the capital. This marked a second attack on the structure during the ongoing conflict. Authorities subsequently closed traffic across both the Southern Bridge and the nearby Paton Bridge in both directions, redirecting vehicles to alternative routes.

In addition to the infrastructure damage, Klitschko reported that Russian drones hit a school and ignited fires throughout the city. Local authorities stated on Telegram that at least one person was killed and two others injured after a Russian attack struck an apartment building.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military conducted an overnight drone operation targeting industrial facilities in Volgograd, a major city on the Volga River within Russia. The strike represents part of Ukraine’s strategy to target Russian industrial and energy assets in response to Moscow’s continued bombardment of Ukrainian cities.

The escalating violence highlights the intensifying exchange of strikes between the two nations, with Kyiv facing repeated aerial attacks on its urban center while Ukrainian drones reach deeper into Russian territory.
