Russian officials have concluded that there are no ongoing health threats following contact tracing efforts related to a reported plague case in the Siberian city of Irkutsk. Governor Igor Kobzev announced on Thursday that inspections identified no dangerous micro-organisms or additional health issues among the contacted individuals.
Despite the initial reports linking the woman’s death to plague, Russian authorities have not officially confirmed this diagnosis. Governor Kobzev clarified in his statement that the deceased had been suffering from community-acquired pneumonia rather than the bubonic plague.
The region, located in southeastern Siberia, remains under observation as officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
