Roku is expanding its platform offerings with two major updates: a suite of discounted subscription bundles and a new experimental environment called Roku Labs. The announcements aim to reduce costs for viewers while giving users a direct line to influence future software development.
The new streaming bundles allow customers to combine multiple services into a single purchase at a significant discount, offering savings of up to 30% compared to buying each service individually. According to the company, more than 30 distinct bundles are currently available. Options span various genres, including premium entertainment packages featuring HBO Max, Starz, and Fox One; educational collections with BritBox and Curiosity Stream; and niche categories such as indie films and faith-based programming.
Because these bundles are integrated into existing accounts, subscribers can manage their preferences without creating new logins or dealing with additional sign-up processes. The company has made the full catalog accessible through its official website, allowing users to browse and subscribe directly from their current profile.
In addition to cost-saving measures, Roku is launching Roku Labs, an initiative designed to let users test applications and features that are still in development. Modeled after similar programs in the tech industry, this portal is open to all Roku users without requiring a separate registration. The initial wave of experimental experiences includes Roku Stock, Roku Weather, Backdrop Studio for customizing home screen artwork, and Immerse for screensaver customization.
Roku also announced that it is open-sourcing Roku LT OS, the lighter operating system utilized by the Roku Voice remote and Smart Home devices. This move is intended to support programmers, makers, and hobbyists who wish to engage in custom engineering projects using the software.
Users can expect to see the Labs tile appear on their main app grid soon. The company also continues to refine core functionalities, including an expanded Roku Voice capability and improved search features, as part of its broader strategy to enhance the viewer experience.
