Robert Pattinson has officially put an end to fan speculation regarding a crossover between his gritty version of the Caped Crusader and James Gunn’s newly established DC Universe, admitting that blending the two would be nearly impossible.
In a recent interview with LADbible, the actor explained that the specific atmosphere and demanding production schedule of Matt Reeves’ franchise create an environment that is difficult to step out of, let alone transplant into a different cinematic world.
“I think it would be kind of tough to have this version of Bruce outside of that world,” Pattinson said. He noted that the role is unique not only because of the lengthy shooting periods but also due to its overwhelming tonal quality. “The tone of it gets inside you. I remember that happened to me the last time I did it, it took a while. You’re just in the dark, the whole time. Both mood-wise and light-wise, I can’t see anything for like months. It does affect you, like you feel strange afterwards.”
The comments highlight the stark contrast between the two iterations of the billionaire vigilante. Pattinson’s debut in 2022’s The Batman offered a noir-infused, somber take on the character, described by Variety’s Peter Debruge as darker than The Dark Knight and deadlier than No Time to Die.
Conversely, Gunn’s Superman, released in 2025, was praised for its upbeat and multifaceted approach. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman noted that the film avoided the grim darkness associated with previous DC projects, instead delivering a story with genuine emotional stakes.
Fans will have to wait until February 18, 2028, to see what happens next for Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne, as The Batman Part II is scheduled for theatrical release then. For now, the actor’s remarks confirm that his specific interpretation of the character remains firmly anchored within the isolated world created by Reeves.
