League of Legends players are facing further delays in the rollout of team voice chat after Riot Games announced the feature would not arrive as planned. The studio revealed on social media that the long-requested functionality, originally slated for the 26.20 patch in October, has been pushed back to ensure it meets community standards.
In a post dated September 22, 2026, the League of Legends Developer Team stated, “We announced Team Voice as coming to NA/OCE in Patch 26.20, but made the call to push it to meet the quality bar you deserve.” The team added that while there is no revised timeline at this moment, the integration remains a high priority.
The postponement ends a period of optimism for the player base, which has waited 17 years for in-game voice communication. Riot did not provide specific details regarding the cause of the delay, only emphasizing the need to deliver a polished experience.
Observers speculate the reversal may be linked to moderation challenges. Riot had initially proposed measures such as requiring a minimum Honor level to access voice chat, intended to mitigate the toxic behavior often associated with the game. There may also have been issues with the planned “voice skin” feature, which would allow players to alter their audio output.
While the initial announcement was met with celebration, the indefinite hold means fans must continue to wait for what many consider a vital update to the multiplayer online battle arena.
