Reform UK’s Zia Yusuf Accused of ‘Straightforward Racism’ Over Post About Camden Leader

Reform UK home affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf has drawn criticism from within his own party following a social media post that questioned whether Sagal Abdi-Wali holds British citizenship. The Labour party characterized the remark as “straightforward racism” after Yusuf implied the Camden council leader was not British.

Abdi-Wali, who arrived in the UK as a child refugee from Somalia, is currently viewed as a leading candidate to succeed Keir Starmer as the Labour contender in the upcoming Holborn and St Pancras byelection.

  1. Questioning someone’s Britishness just because of their background is textbook racism. The Labour response seems entirely justified here.

  2. Can anyone confirm Abdi-Wali’s actual citizenship status? The article states she arrived as a child refugee, which complicates things.

  3. It is deeply troubling when politicians question the citizenship of fellow Britons. This needs to stop immediately.
