Fans of Red Star Belgrade displayed a massive tifo tribute to Ratko Mladic during the team’s derby match against Partizan in the Serbian capital. The display honored the former military leader, who was widely known as the ‘butcher of Bosnia’ for his role in the Yugoslav Wars.
Mladic died while serving a life sentence in a prison in The Hague. He had been convicted by an international tribunal of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes committed during the conflict in the 1990s.
The lack of consequences for such displays is alarming. Sports bodies must act, not just watch.
How can anyone defend this? The victims of the Bosnian war deserve better than this mockery.
Why do people keep bringing up history? It is just a football match, leave it alone.
I had no idea this was happening. It is shocking to see such blatant glorification of war criminals.
This is deeply disturbing. Honoring a genocide convict at a sporting event crosses every line.
