Pittsburgh physician Dr. Idris Evans, who was fatally stabbed in his sleep during a home invasion, is being honored by a community deeply moved by his loss. Evans, 46, died on Thursday after he and his wife were attacked in their Edgewood Borough residence on Linden Avenue.
Evans served as the medical director of the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and was also an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Colleagues and former coworkers have described him as a devoted caregiver whose kindness left a lasting impact.
Renee Dellaera, a retired pediatric nurse who worked alongside Evans at UPMC Children’s Hospital for 42 years, remembered him as one of the finest professionals she ever encountered.
