Belgian heavyweight Michael Pirotton has issued a stark warning to Johnny Fisher, asserting that the British fighter’s mental state is compromised ahead of their upcoming clash on September 26 at London’s Copper Box Arena. The bout will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Pirotton acknowledges that he enters the ring as the clear underdog. With only two professional defeats on his record and Fisher being a significantly more recognized name in the division, the Belgian expects to be overlooked. However, he insists that dismissing him would be a critical error.
“I’m the exact opposite,” Pirotton told Sky Sports. “He has had top-tier promotion and training support from the start, whereas I’ve navigated the grueling, less glamorous side of the sport alone.”
Fisher’s recent form has raised questions about his durability. The Londoner has not secured a victory on home soil in over two years, having previously struggled against and ultimately been stopped by Dave Allen in a rematch. Additionally, Fisher appeared visibly rocked during his December win over Ivan Balaz.
In contrast, Pirotton has never been knocked down or stopped in his career. He reframed his two losses as foundational experiences that forged his current confidence.
“Those defeats came from circumstances outside the ring rather than inside it,” Pirotton explained. “They allowed me to develop a profound belief in myself that I might not have otherwise achieved.”
Targeting Fisher’s psychological vulnerabilities, Pirotton suggested the British boxer is buckling under expectation. “I know his mind is broke, and he is facing too much pressure,” he said. “He can act tough and cocky, but he has never endured what I have. I’ve been broken repeatedly, yet I keep rising.”
Pirotton also addressed the online ridicule he faces, noting that the jibes were so persistent they led him to investigate whether “Pirotton” was a brand of hayfever medication. He highlighted the economic realities many fighters face, stating, “Some of us are plumbers and doormen. I worked as a doorman at night while training during the day. This is the cost of keeping my dream alive.”
Currently priced at approximately 7/1 by bookmakers, Pirotton dedicated his odds to working-class supporters. “For all the plumbers out there, I see the great odds—I’m doing this for you,” he said.
Looking ahead to the fight, Pirotton believes his superior boxing intelligence will be the deciding factor. “The way to beat Johnny is to outsmart him,” he stated. “People don’t rate my boxing IQ because I haven’t shown it fully, but I am ready to embrace the moment and risk everything.”
