Pierce Brosnan Suggests Next James Bond Could Be an Unknown Actor

Following the announcement that Denis Villeneuve will direct the upcoming James Bond installment, speculation has intensified regarding who will inherit the iconic spy role. Former 007 Pierce Brosnan recently shared his perspective in an interview with The Times, suggesting the next actor could be someone entirely outside the public eye.

Brosnan, who portrayed the character in four films between 1995 and 2002, acknowledged the depth of talent available for the part. “There are lots of good hats in the ring” and many great actors are being considered, he said. However, he noted that the producers might choose to go “left-field” and select an unknown performer.

Despite being asked for his opinion, Brosnan declined to name specific candidates. He admitted that his wife had advised him against commenting, fearing that any suggestion would spiral into widespread media coverage and unwanted attention. “I’ve said too much,” he remarked, emphasizing his intention to remain neutral.

The actor also revealed that he does not watch his own Bond films anymore, describing himself as simply a member of the audience eager to see the next iteration. This follows a previous comment from August 2025, where Brosnan joked about potentially returning as an elderly Bond if Villeneuve had an innovative concept in mind, complete with prosthetics and humor.

Casting director Nina Gold has been enlisted by Amazon MGM Studios to find the new star. Gold is known for her work on “The Crown,” the Star Wars franchise, “Les Misérables,” “The Martian,” “Conclave,” and was nominated for an Oscar for “Hamnet” in 2025.

While no official casting decision has been made, reports indicate that Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson, and Jack Lowden are among the final contenders for the role.
