Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has submitted his 2025 annual financial disclosure, revealing assets totaling at least $3.1 million across cash, retirement accounts, and cryptocurrency. The filing, released Wednesday, provides the most recent snapshot of the former Fox News host’s finances since his confirmation as defense secretary in January 2025.
According to the Office of Government Ethics documents, Hegseth holds five retirement fund positions valued between approximately $500,000 and $1.25 million. His wife, Jennifer Hegseth, reported separate retirement investments ranging from roughly $1.55 million to $3.1 million, which include broad U.S. stock and small-cap funds.
A notable shift in liquidity was reported in the couple’s cash holdings. The household disclosed three cash accounts, one of which exceeds $1 million. This marks a dramatic rise from Hegseth’s December 2024 nominee disclosure, where an account described as “U.S. bank #2” held between $15,001 and $50,000. The new filing lists an account with the same descriptor containing more than $1 million.
The disclosure also includes Bitcoin holdings valued between approximately $16,000 and $65,000. In addition to liquid assets, the Hegseths purchased exchange-traded funds worth between $1.41 million and $3.05 million in 2025 after divesting from dozens of individual stocks.
The release of these financial details comes as Hegseth faces intensifying political scrutiny. Members of his own Republican party are calling for his impeachment regarding his management of the conflict with Iran. This internal pressure follows broader tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, where U.S. and Iranian forces exchanged fire earlier this year.
Fox News salary must be adding up. Not surprised he has this much cash on hand.
I just wish he’d focus on the war rather than his wallet. The people are suffering.
Interesting that they dumped individual stocks for ETFs. Smart tax move or distancing from volatile assets during scrutiny?
Impeachment over Iran policy, but the real drama is the crypto and sudden liquidity. Go figure.
That jump from 50k to over a million in one account is suspicious. What happened between December and now?
