Peacock’s Live-Action ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ Series Set for 2027 Shoot

The live-action television adaptation of Matt Dinniman’s popular “Dungeon Crawler Carl” novel series is scheduled to begin production next year, according to Universal Television executives and the author. The announcement was made during a panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday.

During the session, moderated by Dinniman himself, Kelsey Balance, chief of scripted series at Universal Global Television, confirmed that the project has moved into a “soft prep” phase. This involves hiring key department heads, line producers, production designers, directors, and casting teams. However, a specific premiere date has not been set.

“We are starting to see drafts and outlines and we’ve gotten the whole series pitch… While that’s happening, we are building the ship, or building the plane, as we fly,” Balance said. She noted that the team was hoping to announce more specifics during the panel but explained that certain elements are still being finalized due to the complexities of the production process.

Balance added that additional details regarding the series will be revealed “very soon, within the next few weeks.” She emphasized that the goal is to have all scripts completed before production commences in the new year.

Based on Dinniman’s best-selling LitRPG books, the series is being developed by Universal Global Television. Chris Yost and Eric Heisserer are set to lead the show as executive producers, alongside Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald through MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door banner. Dinniman serves as co-executive producer.

Other executives on the panel included Jordan Moblo, EVP of Creative Acquisitions & IP Management at Universal Studio Group, and Vivian Cannon, EVP of Drama Development at Universal Television. As of now, no release window has been provided for the upcoming series.
