Paramount has entered into a settlement agreement with California and 11 other states that had filed suit to prevent the company’s proposed $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. The resolution eliminates a significant legal obstacle to one of the largest media consolidations in recent history.
David Ellison, Paramount’s Chairman and CEO, addressed the outcome by expressing gratitude to California Attorney General Rob Bonta, his fellow state attorneys general, and the Writers Guild of America (WGA) for their commitment to good-faith negotiations. Ellison also acknowledged the support of Governor Gavin Newsom throughout the proceedings.
According to Ellison, the objective of all parties involved was to reach a resolution that best serves consumers, workers, and primarily the creative community.
As a screenwriter, I’m cautiously optimistic. Good-faith negotiations are key for the creative community here.
