Over 400 Detained in France as Student Protests Turn Violent

French authorities detained more than 400 individuals on Tuesday following clashes between police and students who had blockaded schools nationwide. The protests were organized by teenagers demanding action on overcrowded classrooms, insufficient teaching staff, and overly demanding schedules.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez provided figures to BFM TV, confirming that 440 detentions occurred across the country. He noted that while final counts are still being compiled, approximately two-thirds of those detained were taken into police custody.

  1. Honestly, I sympathize with their cause, but breaking windows isn’t going to get them funding. Strange priorities.

  2. Students have every right to protest, but blocking schools affects everyone. Maybe a march would have been more effective?
