Artificial intelligence and networking sectors faced significant headwinds on Monday, with optical stock manufacturers emerging as some of the day’s steepest decliners. The downward pressure appears linked to recent warnings about slowing investment in AI infrastructure.
Major players in the optical space bore the brunt of the selling. Ciena shares closed down nearly 10%, while Lumentum Holdings fell approximately 9.8%. Coherent also saw a steep decline, dropping 7.9%.
Other notable technology and infrastructure names were not spared. Corning lost 6% of its value, and Lumen Technologies declined by 4.3%. Marvell Technology shed 3.4%, and Cisco Systems fell 2.6%. Agiledigm Laboratories (ALAB) dropped 5.29%.
The widespread red among these stocks highlights growing investor caution. Despite the continued hype surrounding artificial intelligence, corporate spending habits may be encountering a reality check, prompting traders to reassess valuations in the networking and semiconductor equipment sectors.
I’m holding my Novavax and will add to my position in Lumentum on the dip.
Investors are finally waking up. Spending slower than expected is a serious problem for optical stocks.
This is classic profit-taking after the massive run-up. Don’t panic sell yet.
Wait, Ciena down 10% overnight? That seems extreme. Did they miss earnings or just take the sector hit?
The AI hype train hit a wall. Maybe it’s time to reassess those skyrocketing valuations.
