OpenAI Launches ChatGPT for Financial Services to Automate Junior Banker Tasks

OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT for Financial Services, a specialized iteration of its enterprise platform designed to handle some of the most labor-intensive duties in investment banking. The new product was developed in collaboration with design partners Morgan Stanley and Evercore, marking a significant push into the workflows traditionally dominated by junior Wall Street staff.

According to Nick Turley, OpenAI’s vice president of product, the tool leverages the company’s latest GPT-6 Astra model to research companies, analyze complex financial data, and generate presentation decks. The system integrates native data access from industry-standard providers such as LSEG, Daloopa, and PitchBook, allowing it to pull real-time financial figures and format outputs according to specific bank style guides.

The launch directly targets the responsibilities of entry-level analysts and associates, who have historically spent countless hours creating pitchbooks and conducting deal research. During a demonstration of the platform, Turley showed the AI analyzing a potential merger and acquisition target, automatically selecting relevant peer companies, populating spreadsheets with pricing data, and explaining market movements such as sell-offs and rebounds.

“We’re effectively teaching ChatGPT to research like an analyst and back up its conclusions like an analyst as well,” Turley stated during the briefing. He emphasized that while generating visually appealing slides is straightforward, ensuring the underlying logic and data accuracy are sound requires the platform to perform rigorous verification steps.

This development underscores OpenAI’s aggressive strategy to capture the enterprise market as it prepares for a widely anticipated initial public offering. The move comes amid intensifying competition from rivals like Anthropic and Google. Anthropic previously launched Claude for Financial Services last year, also targeting the banking sector.

Sarah Friar, OpenAI’s chief financial officer, revealed in August that the company’s enterprise business now generates more revenue than its consumer segment, which gained traction following the 2022 launch of standard ChatGPT. Turley indicated that the financial services release is just the beginning, with tailored solutions for additional sectors planned for future rollout.
