OpenAI is maintaining its stance regarding the termination of three artificial intelligence safety researchers, following an internal investigation that concluded they committed a “significant breach of trust.” In a statement posted to the social media platform X on Friday, the company identified the dismissed employees as Jasmine Wang, Tomek Korbak, and Mikita Balesni.
According to OpenAI, the researchers were fired because they violated explicit company policies concerning the handling of confidential information. The organization emphasized that the dismissals were not motivated by the trio’s public criticism of the company or their advocacy for AI safety measures.
This declaration serves as a direct counter to an open letter released by the former employees on Thursday. In the letter, along with subsequent social media activity, the group called for greater transparency from OpenAI regarding the circumstances of their departure and asserted that their exit was related to their safety concerns.
