Warren Pickering, the leader of One Nation in Victoria, acknowledged during a press conference on Tuesday that he used illegal substances and made serious errors in judgment during his twenties. He admitted to using ecstasy, methamphetamines, and marijuana, as well as losing his driver’s license multiple times due to drink driving.
Speaking with regret, Pickering stated that his past actions caused pain to people he cared about, saying he would carry the guilt for the rest of his life. However, he forcefully denied allegations published by The Australian, which claimed he smoked crystal meth, also known as ice, in the presence of children.
The One Nation politician revealed he is currently reviewing potential legal action against the publication regarding these claims. Notably, media outlets including Guardian Australia and the ABC were excluded from attending the press conference.
