An Ohio resident is pursuing legal action against a local hospital following claims that surgeons removed the wrong limb during a planned procedure. Sharon Jacks, 74, of Meigs County, alleges that doctors amputated her left leg instead of her right during a below-the-knee operation in September 2025.
The lawsuit, filed earlier this month in Washington County Court in Marietta, targets Selby General Hospital, where the incident reportedly occurred. Jacks maintains that the surgery was scheduled specifically for her right leg, but medical staff proceeded on the left side instead.
Horrible news. At least she has a lawyer now, but no compensation fixes the trauma of losing a leg you didn’t need to lose.
Is this really the only case? Or is the lawsuit just bringing it to light? Hospitals should be transparent about these errors.
Where is the protocol? Wrong-site surgery should never happen in modern healthcare. This screams system failure.
