East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust has issued an apology to the family of three-year-old Noah Woods following a breach of his confidential medical records. The trust confirmed that an urgent investigation is underway to determine how the unauthorized access occurred.
Dr Martin Mansfield, the trust’s deputy chief medical officer, described the incident as “completely unacceptable,” emphasizing that any breach of patient data violates the trust’s standards. A statement from the organization added that disciplinary measures would be pursued if warranted by the findings.
In a Sunday statement, Dr. Mansfield noted that immediate actions were taken to secure the records and block further non-clinical access. The matter has been reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), and the trust pledged to keep Noah’s family informed as the inquiry progresses.
The data breach comes in the wake of a tragic event in Brantham, Suffolk. Noah went missing on September 15 during a major search operation involving at least 1,300 volunteers. His body was recovered the following day by police divers from nearby water.
Noah’s family released a tribute describing him as a “happy, cheeky, playful” child who loved to laugh. His mother urged other parents to “hold their children a little tighter and cherish every moment” in light of the loss.
Last week, an inquest at Ipswich Coroner’s Court heard that the toddler had escaped a play area by squeezing through a gap in a fence. Assistant coroner Jyoti Gill labeled the death “very sad and tragic” as she opened and adjourned the proceedings.
