Netflix Sets Nov. 6 Premiere for Ambitious Colombian Thriller ‘Under Siege’

Netflix has announced that Under Siege, an eight-part dramatization of the 1985 Palace of Justice siege in Bogotá, will debut on November 6. The series, originally titled Palacio, is being hailed as the streaming giant’s second most ambitious Colombian production to date.

The storyline centers on the events of November 6 and 7, 1985, when M-19 guerrilla fighters seized the Palace of Justice, holding more than 300 hostages, including Supreme Court justices. The following day, the Colombian military launched a counter-offensive to retake the building, resulting in the deaths or disappearances of at least 94 individuals, comprising justices, combatants, civilians, and military personnel. The narrative also tracks the victims’ families as they pursue accountability for over two decades.

Directed by Edgar Nito, Samir Oliveros, and Jayro Bustamante, the project features a cast that includes Natalia Reyes, known for her role in Terminator: Dark Fate. Bustamante, whose film Mountains of Fire represents Guatemala at the upcoming Oscars, marks his fourth Academy Award submission.

Produced by Dynamo, the veteran outfit behind Narcos as it celebrates its 20th anniversary, the series relied on seven years of research drawn from archives, testimonies, and interviews. The screenplay was developed by showrunner Natalia Santa, known for One Hundred Years of Solitude, alongside Enrique Videla, Enrique Lozano, Jenny Ceballos, and Estefanía Piñeres.

Production took place primarily in Bogotá, where the crew constructed a massive set covering more than 4,000 square meters (43,000 square feet), a process that required over three months. The build included a 30-meter structure replicating the original façade of the Palace of Justice. Francisco Ramos, Netflix’s vice president of Latin American Content, described the series as a “huge undertaking, even by our own standards,” emphasizing the platform’s commitment to authenticity. The project follows the network’s adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, which concluded its second and final season in August 2026.

  1. Is this really their second most ambitious production? Curious what the number one was. The set build sounds massive.

  2. Seven years of research sounds intense. I hope the drama doesn’t get overshadowed by the heavy historical weight.

  3. As a Colombian, I’ve been waiting years for this level of detail and respect shown to our history. Very emotional.
