The Russian-born British flyweight was let go in July 2024, immediately following a unanimous decision victory over Manuel Kape at UFC 304 in Manchester.
At the time, Mokaev appeared destined for a title opportunity, having won seven consecutive bouts within the promotion. However, UFC president Dana White announced that the fighter would not be re-signed. Initial reports suggested that Mokaev’s conduct during the buildup to the Kape fight, which included altercations at the hotel and weigh-ins, played a role in the outcome.
Mokaev disputed this narrative, pointing out that his contract had been renewed twice prior to the release.
