Microsoft is set to release a new version of its Surface Mouse next month, introducing haptic feedback technology to the peripheral line. This second-generation device also features a first-of-its-kind customizable action button.
According to company leadership, the new button is chiefly intended to provide quick access to Microsoft Copilot, though users can reprogram it via the Surface application to trigger other shortcuts.
Brett Ostrum, corporate vice president of Surface Devices, described the haptic feature as delivering a subtle yet immediate physical response to digital interactions. He noted that the feedback is designed to complement on-screen events, such as confirming a click, snapping a window into place, or aligning an object precisely.
Remember when mice just had two buttons and a scroll wheel? Sometimes simple is better, but this sounds decent.
Another button just for Copilot? I hope the customization options are robust enough to make it useful for non-Copilot tasks too.
