Mexico’s national guard has welcomed its newest and smallest recruit, a chihuahua named Comando, who is undergoing training for search-and-rescue operations. Despite his diminutive size, the dog has been assigned a significant role within the force, aiming to bridge gaps in public engagement through his adorable presence.
Commando is outfitted in specialized equipment designed to fit his small frame, including miniature goggles, a tailored tactical vest, a helmet, and a tiny head-mounted camera. Weighing approximately 7 pounds (3.2 kg), he stands out as the most unusual canine member of the national guard to date.
The initiative highlights the force’s efforts to combine professional search-and-rescue capabilities with community-building activities, leveraging Comando’s charm to foster a warmer connection with the public while preparing him for potential operational duties.
Is he actually qualified for operations or just a mascot? I need to know if that camera captures real footage.
I didn’t know chihuahuas could do search and rescue. His tiny vest is the cutest thing I’ve seen all week.
