Man Seriously Injured After Entering Tiger Enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

A man has been seriously injured after entering the tiger enclosure at a wildlife sanctuary in northern England on Saturday, according to South Yorkshire Police. The incident took place at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, located near Doncaster, at approximately 1:35 p.m.

Police confirmed that the tigers stayed within their enclosure and that there was no risk posed to the general public. Emergency responders, including two ground ambulances, an air ambulance, and a medical doctor, were dispatched to the scene by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service. Details regarding the specific nature of the victim’s injuries have not yet been released.

Officials at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park issued a statement saying they are cooperating fully with authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. The facility, which opened in 2009, features a two-acre habitat dedicated to endangered Amur, or Siberian, tigers. The enclosure includes a 300-meter elevated walkway designed for visitors to observe the cats as they move through woodlands and grasslands or play in a waterfall pool.

This event follows a pattern of similar incidents at zoos and wildlife parks globally. In 2024, a woman was detained for climbing a fence and taunting a tiger at New Jersey’s Cohanzick Zoo. A Florida zookeeper was fatally attacked by a Malayan tiger in 2016 after entering the enclosure. Additionally, in 2012, a man severely injured himself after leaping over two fences, one of which was electrified, into the Bronx Zoo tiger enclosure in what police described as a probable suicide attempt.

  1. It is sad but predictable. Humans keep doing dangerous stunts for attention or thrill. This could have been fatal.

  2. The air ambulance response seems appropriate given the severity. Let’s hope for a full recovery despite this terrible decision.

  3. I hope he survives, but surely these incidents keep happening because people underestimate the animals’ speed?

  4. Another reminder that zoo safety barriers are strictly there for protection. Jumping over them is incredibly stupid.
